• 1926 Penrite Oil Company formed by Leslie Mecoles, importing Pennsylvanian crude oils from America, as well as tools and mechanical parts for vehicles and agricultural machinery.
• In 1972, he built blending tanks to produce his own range of oils and lubricants. Ill health forced him to scale down his operations and by 1978 he was down to one representative, a storeman, a driver, secretary and his wife.
• In 1979, John Dymond, an engineer associated with oils and lubrication, bought the company. New products were gradually introduced and distributors set up throughout Australia. The Queensland distributorship later changed to a branch office complete with its own blending facility. Today Penrite Oil Company has branches in every state with distributors covering many of the more isolated areas.
• In 1990 Penrite was established in the United Kingdom and Europe
• 1992 a distributor was appointed in New Zealand
• 1994 a move was made into the U.S.A and Canada, using the same expertise and experience to formulate oils for North American climates.
• 1997 relocated to Wantirna South, Melbourne, Australia.
Penrite offers a complete range of oil and greases for classic, veteran and vintage cars and motorcycles, specifically formulated to meet original requirements but utilising the very best of modern technology.
Modern lubricants do not necessarily suit older vehicles. They are often too thin and the additive ‘packages’ employed have been chosen to suit today’s advanced engineering and materials, not those employed in the design and manufacture of the vehicles of earlier years.
Penrite oils are blended from high quality base stocks combined with selected additives to give the best possible performance. Increased engine protection, high oil pressure and reduced consumption, plus avoidance of ‘gumming’ and sludge deposits result.
The Penrite philosophy of meeting original requirements using modern technology extends across a wide range of lubricants – from engine oils for vehicles of all ages, to various transmission and steering box oils, to specially formulated chassis greases for veterans.
